Man Ejected from Car in Anaheim Auto Accident

Tuesday, December 29th, 2009

The Orange County Register describes an Anaheim auto accident that resulted in the ejection of a man from his vehicle onto the sidewalk after his car collided with another. The Anaheim auto accident occurred early on the afternoon of Nov. 19 when a black Chrysler Sebring heading eastbound on Broadway and a southbound green Hyundai Elantra on Loara Street entered the intersection of Broadway and Loara at the same time. Anaheim police officers investigating the accident scene said the front of the Chrysler impacted the passenger side of the Elantra, causing it to spin towards the southeastern corner of the intersection where it struck a traffic signal.

The force of the impact caused the Hyundai’s drivers to be ejected through the front passenger window of his car causing head trauma. He was taken by ambulance to UCI Medical Center in Orange. The impact caused the Chrysler to spin towards the same corner where it came to rest facing oncoming traffic. An investigating officer with the Anaheim Police Department said the female driver of the Chrysler was injured in the accident and was taken to an undisclosed hospital for treatment. Police were still investigating the Anaheim auto accident and trying to determine which driver had the right of way when the article was published.

Thirty People Killed on California Roads over Thanksgiving Weekend

Thursday, December 24th, 2009

Holiday travelers jammed Los Angeles-area freeways as they returned home from family events, and the Los Angeles Times reports that 30 people lost their lives in California auto accidents over the 2009 Thanksgiving weekend—an increase in fatal auto accidents over last year when 24 people lost their lives. Five of the fatalities occurred in Los Angeles County, but none of those took place in Orange County. One of the most deadly accidents occurred in Novato in Marin County when a speeding car ran a red light and crashed into a minivan with four family members, killing them all.

Officers with the California Highway Patrol claimed they arrested around the same amount of drunk drivers for DUI compared to last year. Of the 1314 drivers arrested for DUI, 225 of those charges took place in Los Angeles County. However, this year’s California DUI statistics were down slightly from last year. In 2008, 1397 were arrested for drunk driving in California. It’s important to note that these DUI arrest numbers include only roads covered by the CHP and does not include roads covered by local police departments. (more…)

Prescription drug manufacturer American Regent has issued a voluntary recall of every lot of their ketorolac tromethamine injection, 30 mg/ml product. If a person injects the drug and particulate matter and crystallization is present, it could induce pulmonary emboli or thrombosis or activate platelets and/or neutrophils to induce anaphylactic reactions.

“Other adverse effects associated with the injection of particulate matter include foreign body granulomas, and local irritation at the injection site,” according to an alert sent yesterday from Med Watch, the FDA’s safety information and adverse event reporting program. (more…)
